One Room Challenge: Week 2 Progress

Week one of the One Room Challenge is done! Today I’m sharing my progress so far. And if you missed the full design plan, check it out at the end of this post.

My first order of business was to tackle the biggest piece in the room, the bed. I’m not sure what look I was going for when I got it (first red flag!) and I could never really get on board with the color and the silver nail head trim. No matter what I did to change things around it, the bed just seemed to set the wrong foundation. I love the shape and sturdiness of it so instead of replacing it, I decided to try my hand at reupholstering.

Here is the bed, originally.

I knew I wanted a linen-look upholstery fabric because it feels calm and casual. It also establishes a great neutral base for the room. I brought home a sample from JoAnn’s and thought it looked awfully familiar. I held it up against our own bed in our master bedroom and sure enough, it is the EXACT same fabric. Hey, at least I’m consistent!

The upholstery fabric (plus cotton lining to ensure the dark grey upholstery didn’t show through) cost me a total of $170 – pretty good for a “new” bed!

The straight lines (and my favorite tool, the staple gun) made this a pretty simple project. I took the bed apart, wrapped each individual piece like a present, stapled it down and reassembled the bed.

VOILA! All together, this project took me less than 3 hours and I absolutely love the result. I am so glad I didn’t spring for a new bed.

Here’s an extra sneak peek for you!

This looks amazing, I love the color and fabric that you chose! I also have a headboard with nailheads right now and am not sure I’m loving it. Love your simple solution 🙂
